St. Louis Waterfront

Along the floodwall in downtown St. Louis, there is a ceramic mural, created by artist Catharine Magel.  Many of the creations were crafted by community residents and school students.  There is a wonderful PowerPoint presentation on the creation of this mural along The Riverfront Trail.  The mural is 190 ft. long and depicts the flora and fauna of the Mississippi River.  I was on the riverboat cruise when these photos were taken, so there wasn't much time to get them, and no control over the angle.  However, I felt they were worth keeping.

One day I hope to be able to walk the riverfront and see these up close!

Always nice to see creativity and beautification of what would otherwise be a plain... boring looking cement wall.

Good call... decision makers.

You should definitely get a closer look.

The first time I saw this mural we were taking some out of town guest on the riverboat ride down the river. My shots that day were not very good and since I did not plan to do anything with them I have never researched this artwork.

I appreciate your doing it for me. Next time we play tour guide to company I will be able to actually have the necessary info at hand.

Fascinating piece. But, ashamed that I am not more current on local history.

You pics turned out well. What a great work that series of murals is.

This mural is quite impressive in size, scope of content, and materials. I'm guessing you get a better perspective from the riverboat than from land. On land you can marvel at the parts but be too close to get the big picture. I'm impressed with the city fathers for approving this project. Thanks, Rita, for your contribution to Monday Mural.

Stunning, love the theme, and the way it evolves over the full length of the mural - quite a feat. Great capture, especially from a moving vehicle!

190 ft-that's beyond imagination. I love the flow of this. What a wonderfully creative concept.

Awesome. Murals that are produced by a combined effort are a cut above the others.
